Essentially a course aimed at finding the goods: whether it’s touring on splitboards, hiking or exploring off the beaten track, we’ll be getting up early to make the most of the conditions we have on the day. Remember, it’s not just about the conditions, it’s what you do with them. Although the splitboard/freeride course also includes riding off the lifts, it will be focussed around splitboarding so previous experience with splitboard is required. Expect around 3-5 days splitting and get ready to embrace the challenges this new sport presents. See gallery on the left, follow me on Instagram or check out the blog (coming soon) for descriptions and photos of the example routes.

Course Outline:

    • Day 1: Safety briefing and equipment check. Skills check, tour and freeriding.

e.g. Le Tour off-piste with splitboards, skills refresher, e.g. runs into Switzerland

    • Day 2: Splitboard mission in Chamonix/Courmayeur

e.g. Flégère touring, Col des Dards or Aiguillette des Houches

    • Day 3:  Splitboard or Freeride day in Chamonix/Courmayeur/Contamines

e.g. Courmayeur riding in the trees or touring. Safety workshop. Powder technique.

    • Day 4: Splitboard or Freeride day in Chamonix/Courmayeur/Contamines

e.g. Laps on Brévent-exploring Flégère or touring from Brev-Fleg

    • Day 5: Splitboard/Freeride day + photo session.

e.g. Col de Salenton, photo/video session

This course puts more emphasis on guiding and exploring than technical improvement although certain tactics and techniques will be encouraged to get the most out of it. This also applies to going uphill…  Learn to enjoy the uphill and the downhill will take care of itself!

Additional equipment list (see essential equipment list):

Basic avi gear: shovel, probe, transceiver, bag, water bottle, splitboard + bindings, skins, telescopic poles, harsheissen if you have them, sunglasses, hat, thin gloves.
